My first experience with physical therapy was in the fall of 2002 when I suffered a serious leg injury that put me in the hospital for 6 days and was unable to walk. As a multi-sport athlete, I was overcome with uncertainty about playing competitively again. With the help of a very determined physical therapist and plenty of hard work during physical therapy, I was sprinting after 2 months and returned to competitive sports that spring. The care, concern, and knowledge base that the physical therapist demonstrated had a lasting effect on me. I remember wanting to be able to share the same compassion, expertise and encouragement as I had received from that physical therapist during my recovery. With this in mind, I knew physical therapy would be a great career choice for me.

While completing my bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences, I began working as a physical therapy technician at HealthQuest Rochester and gained additional experience by observing the various disciplines of physical therapy, such as acute care and in-patient rehabilitation. This helped in giving me a full appreciation for the profession and enabled me to develop a solid understanding of how physical therapists can help anyone from the elderly, to the elite athletes who wish to return to their sport.

After obtaining my bachelors degree in Health Sciences, I began the Doctorate program for physical therapy at Oakland University. At the same time, I became a certified personal trainer at FitnessQuest in Macomb and did home training for a variety of clients as well. My experience as a personal trainer has further enhanced my development as a PT. These training sessions have given me a solid foundation for locating movement dysfunctions that lead to injury and for developing methods to reestablish correct functional movements that lead to improved sports performance and quality of life.

I was thrilled to have the opportunity to remain with the HealthQuest family after obtaining my DPT degree and becoming a licensed Physical Therapist. Their mission is not only to heal people, but also to take the extra steps necessary to help individuals enhance their lives. HealthQuest is extremely involved in the community and very active in promoting the profession of physical therapy. My desire is to use my solid sports training and rehabilitation background along with my firm foundation in manual therapy to help people move better and to live healthier lives!
